How to get here.
Lagos lies 250km south of Lisbon and both cities are connected by reliable and inexpensive public transport. Faro airport is 90 km from Lagos. Seville in Spain is 270 km from Lagos. This guide will detail how to travel from Seville, from Faro or Lisbon to Lagos by car, bus, train or rental car, and includes ticket prices, links to timetables and station information.
The nearest Spanish International Airport is in Seville, 270 kilometers from Lagos. If you rent a car at the airport, you need to follow the signs to the A49 in Spain and A22 in Portugal, along the highway coming from Andalucia Spain follow always indications to Portugal. In Portugal follow the signs for Portimao and Lagos along the A22, drive until you Lagos. This happens almost at the end of the Highway.
The nearest airport is in Faro, 80 km from Lagos. If you rent a car at the airport, you need to follow the signs to the A22, the highway coming from Andalucia Spain and ending at Lagos. Follow the signs for Portimao and Lagos and when on the A22, drive until you Lagos. This happens almost at the end of the Highway. From there just follow the sign towards Lagos.

From Spain is no direct line into the Algarve, the regional train starts at the Portuguese border town of Vila Real de San Antonio and ends in Lagos. From Lagos train station it is a 25 to 30 minute walk (probably depending on the size and heaviness of your luggage) across a small pedestrian bridge over the marinas waterway till Vinyl Flat.
To get from Faro Airport to Faro train station (which is just before Faro marina) either get the bus from the airport (the stop is right outside the ‘Arrivals’ doors) and will cost you around 1.95€, or get a taxi at a cost of around 10€.
Trains from Faro to Lagos run at intervals throughout the day and the journey takes around 1 hour and 40 minutes.
→ The train station in Lagos is just behind the marina and it is a very short walk across the marina bridge to the Avenida dos Descobrimentos.

The main Train stations in Lisbon are ‘Gare do Oriente‘ & ‘Santa Apolonia‘. The train journey between Lisbon and Lagos ‘2.30 hours‘ requires a connection at Tunes and uses two very different trains. The train between Lagos and Tunes ‘60 min.‘ is a slow Regional-train, while the journey from Lisbon to Tunes is by a fast and modern Intercity-train. You will have to change trains in the town Tunes (Algarve), then take the Regional-train to Lagos.
The international Bus comes from Sevilla or Huelva, crossing the border and ends in Lagos.
To get from Faro Airport to Faro bus station (which is just before Faro Marina) either get the bus from the airport (the stop is right outside the ‘Arrivals’ doors) and will cost you around 1.95€, or get a taxi at a cost of around 10€.
Buses from Faro to Lagos also run at intervals throughout the day and the journey takes around ‘2.10 hours’.

Note: Days of the week in Portugal: Monday is the 2nd day of the week – ‘Segunda-feira’- and Friday is the 6th day, ‘Sexta-feira’. ‘Sábado’ and ‘Domingo’ are Saturday and Sunday; ‘Feriados’ is holidays; ‘Diariamente’ means daily.

From Lisbon, there are two possibilities to drive down south and end up in Lagos.
The first possibility by car from Lisbon costs less when it comes to tolls and is time wise the same. But, much more scenery to inhale. Here we go: From Lisbon take the A2 highway south to Grandola where you get off the highway and drive towards Sines. You will not get into Grandola or Sines itself. After passing Sines and its oil refinery a small road then turns right to Sao Torpes and Port Covo. That is where the scenery gets interesting and the camera gets in handy. Drive all the way down to Port Covo, a small coastal town, worth a stop and a stroll along the streets towards the waterfront. When finished and ready to drive on, leave Port Covo towards Vila Nova de Milfontes. (Leave the camera out of the bag, still some nice shots to be taken.) From there the N120 already has signs leading you to Lagos.
One is to take the A2 highway from Lisbon all the way down where it meets the A22 highway west of Faro in the Algarve. Then continue the A22 highway towards Lagos. This option is a costly one, the highway come with a toll but it takes ‘much less time’ to get here.

Getting around.
Lagos has a wide range of Bike shops with bikes, Motorbikes, Choppers and Scooters all of which are kept at excellent condition. These shops deliver the vehicle of your choice to our Bed & Breakfast at the time you choose.
Another way to move around Lagos is with the City Bus “A ONDA”. Easy, cheap, always around the clock and takes you wherever you will go.
The ‘Onda‘ network of local buses in Lagos make it very easy to get around (very cheaply). Lagos ‘Onda’ has 8 routes but with the addition of a special summer evening route ‘Onda Verão‘ that runs for July and August:
→ Onda Verão – Between Porto de Mós and Forte da Meia Praia every half hour from ‘20.30 o’clock’ to midnight with stops including Forte da Meia Praia, Jardim das Dunas, Hotel Marina, stops along the Avenida dos Descobrimentos, Praia de Dona Ana, Torraltinha, Praia do Porto de Mos, and the train station.
- Onda Vermelha (linha 1) – A circular route around Lagos town – Starting at the school at the back of the marina with stops at the Sports Complex, along the Av. dos Descobrimentos, the market at St. Amaro and Hospital S.Goncalo (amongst others!) before returning to the school at the back of the marina.
- Onda Azul (linha 2) – Between Meia Praia and Porto de Mós – Starting at the far end of Meia Praia at the fort with stops at Jardim das Dunas, the marina end (only) of the Av. dos Descobrimentos, the Sports Complex ‘The Chairs’ roundabout, the health centre, Torraltinha, Dona Ana (amongst others) and finally at Porto de Mós.
- Onda Rosa (linha 3) – Between Lagos, Chinicato and Odiáxere – Starting at Praça Infante D. Henrique, with stops along the Av. dos Descobrimentos, the Sports Complex, the aerodrome, Chinicato, Torre, Vale da Igreja, Urb. Vale S. Francisco and finally Odiáxere.
- Onda Amarela (linha 4) – Between Lagos and Almádena – Starting at Praca Infante D. Henrique with stops at the ‘Ball’ roundabout, Parque da Cidade, the Health centre, Boavista (golf resort), Valverde, Luz market, Luz church, Belavista hotel, Calicos, Espiche,Cerro dos Vales and finally at Almádena.
- Onda Laranja (linha 5) – Between Lagos and Montes Juntos – Starting at Praça Infante D. Henrique, along the Av.dos Descobrimentos, past the aerodrome, through Chinicato, Sargaçal to Montes Juntos.
- Onda Verde (linha 6) – Between Lagos and Barão S. João – Starting at Praça Infante D. Henrique, along the Av. dos Descobrimentos, to the Sports Complex, then out to Paraiso, Bensafrim, Monte Figueiras, Zoo Lagos and finally Barão de S. João.
- Onda Castanha (linha 7) – Between Lagos and Colégio – Starting at Praça Infante D. Henrique, with stops along the Av. dos Descobrimentos , the Sports Complex, Portelas, Monte Judeu, Colégio, Caliço and back to Monte Judeu.
- Onda Lilás (linha 8) – Between Gil Eanes Secondary School and Colinas Verdes – Including stops at S. Gonçalo hospital, Torraltinha, Bombeiros (fire station), Praça D.Henrique, along the front to the Sports Complex, along the EN125 through Chinicato,Torre, Odiáxere, Farta Vacas, Monte Ruivo, Cotifo to Colinas Verdes.
Apart from the summer ‘Onda Verão’ service, Lagos Onda buses run between 7am and 8pm every day (the last circuit starts around 7.15pm) with restricted services on Sundays and holidays.
